reclaiming ppi on halifax tmpp

I took out a mortgage in 2006 with the halifax and was told i had to take out their total mortgage protection plan which was ppi and life insurance etc all rolled into one. To cut a long story short i have asked for a refund of the money i have paid into this plan as i believe i was missold. They have written back offering me a refund of just the ppi element of the plan but my query is can i ask for a refund of the entire plan as i had to take out the life insurance as well as the ppi because it was offered as one product and i did not have a choice. Also if i try to reclaim all the money and they refuse then do i lose what they have already offered me? Hoping this makes sense and that someone can help me

Halifax auto payout on the MPPI part of the TMPP. So, they are not upholding your complaint. They are just paying it back. However, they will not autopayout on the other segments of the policy. They will only pay back on those if there is a valid reason for complaint that they agree with.
Your complaint is weak. it is an unprovable allegation. So, easily rejected. Indeed, most wouldnt even pay back the MPPI on that bit. You are getting lucky due to Halifax auto paying it.Also if i try to reclaim all the money and they refuse then do i lose what they have already offered me? An autopayout is a goodwill gesture. If you want them to look at your complaint on the whole policy, they could find that none of it was mis-sold and withdraw the refund they offered.
So, you need to tread carefully. You have a weak complaint but are getting lucky. Most MPPI complaints get rejected and most people have life assurance on their mortgage (so you wouldnt expect to succeed on that point unless you are single and live alone). So, you are facing a choice of accepting that or risking the lot for nothing with very little chance of getting back the other bits anyway.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
