Illness while on Jobseekers allowance..

Being an evil dole scrounger.. I've taken 2 sick periods of 2 days each in a year.
I'm now feeling pretty crumby now .. bunged up and if I get any worse I'll have to go sick again.. this time with a heavy cold.. an feel crap
I'm told my jobseekers will stop if I go sick. I have to claim esa.
does this mean I have to needlessly pester my doc. for a sick note?
Do I fill in an esa form and does this mean I have to wait for a decision?

many thankls for the help..

Is it just a fortnightly appointment? Just go, I'm full of the cold and I went to work! Take some pills, go to the job centre, come back, have some rest, sleep, eat soup and get better.

I know you may feel rubbish but if it's just a short appointment, just go. If you're ill they might just want to do it quick so they don't catch it!

It's only a cold. I always go to work if I have a cold. That's just life. Take some medicine and get better soon but don't risk losing JSA for the sake of a cold.

I don't understand why you need to 'go sick' due to a cold when you are looking for a job. Is the cold so bad that you can't fill out an application form? Have you tried a cold/flu tablet or lemsip?

Or is the cold just an excuse to not look for work?

I don't understand. Are you being told to sign off JSA and go onto ESA because you have a cold? Or is this an ongoing chronic illness that leaves you more susceptible to things like colds?

You're only allowed to claim 2 periods of short term sickness per year. That, presumably, is why the OP has been told they will need to claim ESA if they're ill again.

I can't imagine that, without some kind of actual health condition, that the OP would "pass" an ESA medical either so basically they need to get to the job centre or face sanction.

You won't get ESA for a cold....The only thing you will get is a sanction if you fail to sign...

It's your duty to go in .... and moan, cough and splutter so they catch it too :)
That's what you do when you've got a job, so it's good to practice.

What if you claim it's Man Flu?

Very serious as us men know.

Well Man flu is different as i understand it is a very serious afliction and suffers of this serious illness should be awarded ESA support group without a medical for a period of 5 years.

I always dragged my germ-ridden carcass into the JCP, in the hope that I would infect as many of the b@st@rds as possible. :)
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
