Hi - We are thinking of a week in Italy this year (july 20th-30th) roughly . We want to be by the sea close to a decent town , nice food in and around hotel (all inclusive would be good too)about an hour and a half max from the airport. 3 people = 2x grown ups and 1x 17yo . Never been to Italy and open to suggestions . Budget around £700 each . £2k total . from Mankchester / Liverpool . Q. Would you stay Sorrento or Sicily ? Seen places in both ..
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

i've been to Sorrento & thoroughly recommend - you're nearby to a lot good attractions (Pompeii, Vesuvius, Naples, Amalfi Coast, Herculaneum & Capri/Iscia)
i'm heading to Siciliy later this year but no first hand experience yet so can't compare the two0 -
Decent, nice holidays are IMHO generally more expensive in Italy than other countries.
Prepare your self for €4 coffees, €2 per person cover charges etcPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Why would you AI in ITALY?!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

Your right . But you haven't seen me drink . haha . Theres a simple reason that started from way back for us . AI hotels at a decent standard 4*+ are often better and if you read reports and between the lines make sure the food is of a standard because I like a brekky and don't like to move far to find it . Hotel brekkys that are not AI are often over priced and often ropey.Back to the drink . I like to have a beer or cocktail when away its the law. & I can put some of the stuff away . I Cyprus last year our 10 day break added to about £80 PPPN on british prices we gave that a big dent in drinks/coffee and ice creams. add a brekky and some evening meals into that it works out a no brainer . Love to go out and find good food always do. Our hollybobs are not on a tight budget we do like to get value for money /notanewuser wrote: »Why would you AI in ITALY?! hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
I really like the area around Lake Como but I would imagine that a 17 year old would be bored stupid there.0

It depends what you prefer to do, if you are beach people then Sicily is great. Sorrento is a travel hub and from there is easy to get to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Capri etc. You can't really go wrong with either, but for me the Amalfi coast is unforgettable.0

My two enjoyed it there when they were 17, (possibly because the supermarket let them buy beer

I've been to Sicily twice and loved it. Last year we stayed at the all inclusive Naxos Beach hotel which was well located for Mount Etna, Taormina and Syracuse. You could also look at Cefalu.0

AI is a really bad idea... the best Italian food is found in small, family-run restaurants (of which there are many everywhere). Italians are generally moderate drinkers, so not a good place to go to hit the free booze.0
