Put a stick into the ground and tie a 20 foot length of sisal string to it. Tie the other end to a cat's collar. The cat has enough string to wander around and no birds will come near the car.

Will they just not fly overhead and sh** on the car anyways?

OP, you're on the flight path to a nest(or 10). There's an old saying, you don't sh** in your own nest.

So they most likely do it either heading out or heading back.

Had them in the loft off the garage once, blocked their access for the following year and no droppings on the car. They've found another way in this year and the washing's suffering. I'll leave them to it then block that entrance too when they're away.

When is the best time to start blocking the entrances? Will they be breeding already or building their nests?
  • Whilst I feel your pain, have you seen the size of the seagulls in Aberdeen, and what happens when they have what can only be described as explosive things happen inside them when they fly above your car?!!

I have seen Lidl selling car covers? But then you would need to clean those at some time. How about a temporary car port?

I lived opposite a small "park" type thing until March (small plot of land, covered in grass, once housed a small play area on it) and there was a large group of pigeons that flew onto the roofs of houses and back accross to the grass, not helped by an old woman down the street and a bloke who would drive round every day with 3 loaves of stale bread, the pair of them fed these skyrats every day.
they dropped their loads (the pigeons, not the old woman and bloke) over my car regularly, and i used to wash it once a week. if one weekend i couldnt wash it i would just get the poo off with warm water (as advised above...)

I think 3 times a day is a bit much personally...

Why would you do that? It is illegal to disturb the birds. Just move the car.

It's not illegal to disturb the birds, only their nests when in use, as far as I know. That's why I'm wondering when is best to block the entrances ie: when they'll be gone. There's no way I want more of them next year.

Starlings are listed as a pest species according to the wildlife law leaflet I've just read, and can be shot/killed under a general licence.

A decent wax polish and the muck will wash away easily.

dont park underneath trees if you can avoid it. I googled info on how to remove bird poop earlier today as I had two craploads on the car.

what you need to do is get some toilet paper, douse it with quick detailer and put it on the bird poop (wet side down obviously).

Then pour a cup of water on top of the bird toilet paper and let it sit for a while.

The quick detailer lubricates and the water will dilute the dried poop and allow it to come off easier.

Give it 10 minutes, come back and remove it.

This assumes you have a cat available and, if so, that it will be happy being tied up from dawn to dusk. I'm calling the RSPCA.

    Good luck with that.

No cure unfortunately (and a neighbour that not only feeds the !!!!!!!s but allows them to nest in their decrepit roof) but to remove, "bird lime" place a paper towel over the area, soak it with water and it will lift off with another splash of water in 20-30 minutes.
Definitely a time to keep a good layer of wax on the car.

I use this method and it is very effective.

As long as you don't mind your car looking as if it has had a bad day shaving. ;)
