If sales continue to build you may reach the VAT threshold and be obliged to register and collect VAT from your sales to pay HMRC.
You'd hope so, but there a loads of sellers doing 50k a month but who are not VAT registered. I know because I asked if I could claim back VAT and they had no VAT number.
Also loads of HK / China sellers warehousing from the UK who are not VAT registered but should be. Quite amazed Ebay allows them to exceed 81k annual without insisting on this really, as VAT registration isn't optional, but they seem to get away with it.0 -
Can you explain how this business model works as I'm interested in finding out. It's just that it's so much cheaper postage to get thick items over 25mm sent from abroad, I don't know why people would bother basing here to send here.HK / China sellers warehousing from the UKWarning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. I can't as I'm not a Chinese seller. However you can find loads of Chinese / HK sellers who list an overseas business address, but use a UK warehouse, but don't provide a VAT number.0 -
I assumed that they were just freight forwarding companies so they wouldn't be re-selling the items but merely posting the items as and when provided with addresses.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. As for tax, etc. They should be paying UK taxes if they're stored and sent from the UK. Sadly there are (some legal) ways around it and the sellers rely on the British authorities not being too interested in chasing them for a few hundred quid. It's us poor saps doing it all legit that end up taking the strain from all sides. We have to compete with the overseas sellers and pay the relevant taxes..0
