Ikea Wardrobe problem

Hoping someone can help me. I have an Ikea Pax wardrobe system with Lindel sliding doors, bought in October 2009. Until Easter Sunday I was quite happy with it. We went to bed Easter Sunday evening and noticed that the glass panel in the bottom of the door had spontaneously shattered. The glass was still absolutely flat just in thousands of pieces in the frame.

We phoned Ikea the next day and they booked an external company to look at it. They came on the Wednesday and apparently reported back to Ikea that we had misused the wardrobe, however the first I heard was a text from the 3rd party company asking for me to arrange an appointment to inspect the furniture for a second time as Ikea did not agree with the misuse label. A different inspector came on the 19th and said there was no evidence of misuse and there was nothing evident that could have broken it.

However we have now heard back from Ikea that they are classing it as accidental damage as there is no way of proving a manufacturing fault so will not help. Citizens advice have said to take it further we would need an independent report which looks expensive (from £125 from the furniture ombudsman). We can't afford this. The 10 year guarantee does not appear to be worth anything as it is at their discretion. We can't just replace the panel as this door is no longer made. Is there anything we can do?

It is possible for glass to spontaneously crack and even opening and closing the door over many years could lead to weakness.

Your options are to pay for the obudsman, have it remirrored or buy new doors.

Thanks, think the new doors may actually be the least expensive option.
