I like the joke that one gold sov would have bought you a decent toga in Roman Britain and a decent suit now. That's inflation protection for you.

I heard Peter Schiff (guy on youtube) make the arguement that prices have not rose due to inflation. Rather the value of the money is worth less and less each year.

Prices are inflation, in the sense that if you inflate the number of tickets then all other things being equal the number of tickets per item, ie. the value of goods measured in increasingly worthless bank tickets, rises.

Except it's possibly not a joke.

People have actually carried out serious academic research to show that a soldier in the Roman Army got paid about the same as a soldier in the US Army, when measured in terms of gold.

There was a story on Bbc NW news a few weeks ago about the anniversery of the opening of Blackpool Tower, it had cost 6d to go in and an extra tanner if you wanted to use the lift.
So on the day of the anniversery they were letting the first group of customers in for the same price. I thought when i saw it, but where will they all find enough old sixpenny bits from.
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
