Roofer closing company & opening Ltd. Co.

I have just had a new roof. The roofer just contacted me asking for payment, and said he wanted to tie up loose ends because he is going to open a limited co. Warning bells are ringing because a previous company I used for repairs on the same roof, closed then set up again under a different name, & when I tried to use my 10 year guarantee found it was useless. Is this happening to me again? Any advice would be much appreciated TIA.

What type of entity is he just now?0

Not sure what you want. Clearly you owe him the money for the new roof and so what if he wants to start up a Ltd co, there's nothing you can do about that.0

If he's a sole trader right now, then if something goes wrong in future and his new company refuses to do anything about it then you could sue HIM.
But I'd be paying the balance on your credit card ... even just a few pounds of it (if you haven't paid any of it yet by CC), just for theSection 75 protection.0 -
Do roofers actually take credit cards?0

Why not?
Most businesses have the capability to accept card transactions.0 -
I've never met a builder that did0

So you're witholding payment on a job he's done? Well done, he's shelled out for the work and now hasn't been paid.
No wonder people open and close limited companies so much.0 -

That's a bit harsh!
They are simply asking for advice for as to protect themselves in the future if anything goes wrong with the work carried out.
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question, there is no mention of payment being held yet, that is what they are here asking about...A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.0
