The danger to watch out for here is that the DD may be cancelled if it's not used in 13 months.

So if you pay by debit card for 13 consecutive months, then don't expect the DD to still be operational in the 14th month.

If I normally pay by direct debit, but log in on the TalkTalk website and pay manually as soon as they bill me, I will get a 15% discount and they won't take a DD that month?

Sounds like a good thing but has anyone had any problems doing this? Such as being charged twice?

Used it for several months, no problems so far.

    Been doing this since December.

Even though my bill is £3.50.

I'd rather keep the 52p. And earn 5 Avios, and not have to actually pay it until 30 days later.

I suppose I could get 3% cashback with a DD from Santander 123, but that account doesn't work for me.

Yes, it's on the total bill. The Value Line Rental saving is 26.33%, so it's cheaper to pay this in advance.

I've just received a reminder about renewing my Value Line Rental next month.

Last September I paid £114 for annual line rental, saving £65.40. This time around they are charging £172.20 for annual line rental, a saving of £19.20!

I can't see much 'Value' in their offer this time around.

Update - I've just found this conversation on the Talktalk Community Forum which is quite interesting

Yes, they changed it last week. MSE did a comparison table, and Talktalk now has the most expensive upfront line rental (if I recall correctly).

I'd switch through topcashback. I did that a few weeks ago and the cashback paid for the line rental completely.
  • No, not charged twice, but discount refused because paid too quickly! I too paid as soon as the bill arrived but you have to wait for the email.
  • I had an incorrect bill for £72 so I challenged it straight away and ended up in credit. I was assured no money would be taken by DD as I was now in credit by £14. A few days later they tried to take £72 from my account. Fortunately I had suspended the DD. They wrote to me a few days later informing me that I owed them £72 and would be charged £10 for not paying by DD -even though they owed me £14 and had assured me that they would not take any money this month.
"Discussions" by telephone to their people in India, Manila, S Africa and Preston are on-going...
Not sure I trust the discount.
  • I received a few months billing emails then they stopped. Every payment is on time by DD. I have phoned again and again. One call centre worker said they only send them sometimes. I then got one. This month back to no billing email.

I had numerous calls about the non-recording You view. I kept explaining I was very unwell. Finally after a call of over 30 minutes I gave in because I felt so ill and the saleswoman was relentless. This is a very poor value contract. Buy a recorder on the high street. I am leaving this provider asap!
