Ah right, it makes sense now. We had to have our dog's glands removed because of frequent infections and he had to have them emptied every 4 weeks. His were at a funny angle and quite deep, so when they fitted up, it was compared to cherry tomatoes
Nibbling more towards the bum area is a sign, as is 'scooting' along the floor. My hound got more 'yappy' and a bit bouncy when he was due as well.
Did the vet suggest more fibre in his diet? Stuff like all-bran is supposed to help clear them. Glad you got him sorted, give him a cuddle from me and my pooch :)

  • As I've never been a dog owner before, I didn't have a clue about anal glands. I decided to get a rescue dog about a year after my kitty died. Couldn't face to get another cat as she had been part of my life for 19 years.

I feed him Wainwrights complete dog food (dry) and I get the same brand wet food to use as a topper. Can't remember if the vet mentioned introducing some extra fiber into his diet. However, I have searched on the internet and it does appear that extra fiber could help.

I am going to get him some all bran type thing to try. Hopefully he'll eat it lol. Otherwise, I will see what other options there are out there. I have read on the internet that Skinners dog food is supposed to be good. Although I would have to buy it from their webstore as there are no stockists close to where I live.
