Problems with GMail account
Comments
-
Well, the problem may well be that you have a real problem with someone, somewhere trying to break into your email - in which case it is a GOOD thing and GMail has saved your backside already.
With 2FA you don't enter your phone number and receive a text every time you want to read your mails, you do it once and tell GMail to leave a cookie the computer so it won't ask you again (unless you use a different computer, in which case it'll ask you again, to prove you're you).0 -
I never switch off the router, but I'm not sure what plusnet do at their end!
I had a similar problem a while ago with Yahoo mail. They thought I was signing in from the USA when in fact I was here in Manchester..then I went to Speedtest.net to do a test and it showed my ISP as Infonet Services Corporation. I'm with Plusnet too, I posted a question about it on their forums:

One of the replies:
"Hi
This is due to the IP Range 146.200.0.0/16 that Plusnet now are using/own still being listed as Infonet Services Corporation as the owner on the ARIN database:

I think this is due to be corrected or amended."
I think I just restarted my router a couple of times and it eventually went back to a normal Plusnet IP address, but it was a little mystery at the time.0 -
Google don't have my phone number
that is how you have a problem0 -
Is there any risk from windows apps and firefox add ons which store your username and password to give you notifications of new mail ?0
-
If you use add-ons that try to anonymise you and as an example I will use ZenMate for Google Chrome, If you attempt to log into your gmail account and you have set ZenMate to show you as a different country like Germany, Turkey etc, gmail will see that as a suspicious login and ask for another level of verification ala the second step of the 2-step verification you can enable for better security.
If you then turn off ZenMate and proceed to log into your gmail account, Google may ask you to change your password.
Google will not allow you to input the same password or a previous password that you have used, so, if it's not a "favourite" password remember to write it down somewhere and change the login password on any devices you own.
While this is a good thing in some ways it make anonymising a waste of time.0 -
yeah agree with darkan9el - any proxy will do that, or VPN - and if you use a client like thunderbird/outlook, just cause you personally didn't log in doesn't mean the client isn't constantly verifying, what happens is the server the other side gets one login from elsewhere and panics, - normally a good thing. only way you can get away with a proxy is a 2nd pc without mail client or make sure outlook or thunderbird are not on while using it - and when I say not on, on once is enough to make google think you're from Nigeria.0
