Problems with car.
I purchased a car five days ago from a dealer,it came with a 3 month warranty which covered me up to £250 worth of repairs, after coming back from a trip out,I've noticed white mayonnaise in the expansion tank and white smoke out of the exhaust,so reckon the headgasket is gone.
Thing is these don't go overnight so the dealer must have sold it to me with the headgasket damaged, replacement of the headgasket will be more than the £250 covered, whats the best way of explaining this to the dealer without it degenerating into a slanging match?e.g for him to cover the whole cost?,or am I just going to have to bite the bullet?,was thinking sale of goods act(e.g,fit for purpose)

im no expert but id imagine you can demand your money back
headgaskets can and do fail jut like that ...was the oil water clean on purchase day?0 -
Again no legal expert but I would think that the "warranty" is in addition to and in no way affects your statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act and as such you should have some sort of claim under said act.
However, I agree totally with steveo with regards a head gasket failure. I would suggest that sudden failure is more usual than progressive.
If you like the car then I would give the dealer the option to fix it first under SOG and not the "warranty" - it looks better for you then if you have any problems re a refund?0 -
