I don't normally post, but just wanted to say hang in their Molly it does get easier. My Mum and Dad had to go into respite and although it was hard at the time it was the best thing in the end as they couldn't cope at home on their own.
We have since lost Dad and because Mum has Vascular Dementia it is the best place for her as she will wander given half a chance. The home is fantastic and look after her really well.
I totally burnt myself out trying to look after them when they were at home and keep working full time. Take some time to look after yourself as others have said you cant do anything if you are off your feet.

I spoke to sis-in-law yesterday and she is talking about downsizing from the family home (DH was born there) which is fine so long as she is doing it for the right reasons, I have my doubts.
I'd love to downsize. Only thing is my house isn't worth that much so it would mean borrowing the extra.... No thanks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I don't post often, but always read the thread. I just wanted to send hugs to Molly and hope the hospital visit goes OK and doesn't confirm what you fear.
As everyone else has said you must think of yourself as well, you have had a very serious operation and you need time to recover.
Much love

Molly don't ever feel guilty. You are a wonderful mother and daughter.
At the moment you are not in the best of health and have your young family to consider first and foremost.
Your Mum and Dad are safe and being cared for so for now concentrate on getting yourself well before anything else. I really hope the hospital visit is ok and please pop back later to let us know how you got on.
Lots of love and positive vibes are on their way to you darling xxxxBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Afternoon all,
Molly thinking of you, things always seem much worse in the middle of the night, hope you can draw some strength from all the lovely people on here, take care of yourself because if you don't you can't take care of anyone else x
We had some sad news yesterday, my dh's step mum who is a lovely lady and 83 yrs young lost her mum last night who was 104yrs would have been 105 in August. She has had dementia for several years and was in a lovely nursing home, but was always very happy. She was a superstar to all the other ladies and will be sadly missed:A
Well I've had a pottering morning, worked up my courage and booked in for aqua aerobics at 2:eek: I'm scared to death but determined to do as much as I can to help my athritis. The doctor says its a good idea. I'm also trying yoga tomorrow, the teacher is supposed to be good so we shall see. I'm not shy but have lost my confidence since this op, but I'm GOING, wish me luck. Then I have my weigh in later, fingers crossed.
Tea tonight is peri peri chicken with healthy chips done in the oven and veg.
Hope you all have a great Tuesday xStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Molly give yourself a break - and some credit for managing as much as you have done, in the face of being in such poor health yourself. Sweetie, you cannot be all things for all people, much as you'd like to; you've done the very best you can for your parents, there is no way on this earth even someone in robust health could care for two elderly folks with their problems, so you stop beating yourself up, right now, ok?
Time to step back and get everything into perspective; your parents are safe and being looked after; your youngest will be ok - he was able to sit and comfort you, remember, so that's a good sign; MH issues don't go away, I know; but he's an intelligent lad, it's not all as bad as it seems at 3 a.m. And you're not ignoring your kids; you just can't be Superwoman and do everything all in one hit.
Fwiw I think you're doing an amazing amount, amazingly well, given the circumstances. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
Nice day again after a bit of rain this morning.
Massive hugs for you all Molly.Ageing parents are an enormous worry and I was in good health when mine started being ill & needing a lot of attention, unlike you.I remember feeling the guilt so well,Dad ringing me at work distraught and I couldnt just drop everything to go over
.Hope your appointment goes well today, its still early days after your op.
Its lovely to see the support on this thread, even if its virtual :T & thank you to posters who dont usually come on the daily and have taken the trouble:T .Honey Bear-yes we do hugs on the Daily ,albeit gentle ones sometimes,or positive vibes-every little helps
DS1 went to the doctors this morning and she thinks he's got a pulled muscle deep down in his abdomen, given him ibuprofen. She cant feel a hernia & doesnt think its bowel related so he felt relieved when he got back.He did kinda think it could be that but wanted to be sure.
DH & DS2 have been back & forth today as they are working at a garage and the men there were meant to dismantle a ramp but hadnt so they couldnt get to the work area.Came back for their dinner until they got a message to say it was gone.I'd just made a pan of broc & stilton soup so that went down well. I still have 10 tubs of stock to use from the big freezer before we move
Making burgers again for tea-they went down really well last time I made them.Did my ironing mountain early before it got too warm as well so I feel quite virtuous now
Julie hope you enjoy aqua aerobics-I used to love it but there isnt a pool near enough that does it now.Sorry to hear about DHs stepmums Mum,what a fantastic age though x
Hope you all have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Caught up to here!
Molly just to follow what everyone else has already said you are doing fantastic and anything seems worse at 3am!!!
You are just one women and if you run yourself in to the ground you won't be able to help anyone. Just take each day as it comes, take time for yourself and although you promised your Dad you wouldn't respite REALLY IS the best place he can be in, at least right now. That way you will be all less exhausted, he is getting the qualified care he needs all round and when you go to see him you can enjoy spending time with him instead of worrying about numerous different things. You are not superwomen - although with all the plates you are spinning your not far off
- and if anyone asks if you need help do say yes, people really don't mind helping out if they can! Hugs & calming happy thoughts!!!
Not much to report here, need to do the ironing when I get home and get a load of washing ready to go on in the morning. Tea tonight is chicken wrapped in bacon with veg & mash
will try and get my meal plan ready too so tomorrow I can do my food shopping list ready for Thursday morning.
Work is both boring and stressful  people are just all constantly annoyed for no actual reason, grumpy with everyone and one minute it's really quiet then the next it's spiking busy. Roll on 5pm - although in the grand scheme my annoyance at work is very small compared to other peoples worries!
Hope everyone is having a nice day whatever you may be doing.Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:
