Portable air con with casement windows - use foam?

Since I moved house, my new bedroom has casement windows (those that open out as opposed to vertical sliding windows) and so my portable air con unit exhaust won't fit them. Anyone got any good solutions for a total DIY novice?
I thought maybe get a big piece of waterproof foam very slightly bigger than the window opening, cut a hole in it for the air con exhaust to fit tightly, then jam it in the window opening (and leave that window open through the summer). Would this work?
I looked at some other ideas on Youtube, but I don't really want to be fixing anything permanent...
