Used Car - main dealer says no price flexibility

It's well worth haggling on a new car. I got a great deal after advice on here. Used car maybe be slightly different but new car dealers seem to have quite a large discretion to move from the listed price.0

And why not?
Do you go into tescos and negotiate over a tin of beans? Are Tescos not setting the price?
If the dealer is already the cheapest in the area for the car, why should they give away profit "just because"?
People haggle over cars and not beans due to it being a much higher price and the same goes for houses.Did you pay full price for your house?
Whether you like it or not, people for decades like to have a haggle when buying a car and feeling that they have got a discount due to their haggling 'skills'.
And if I was spending 7k on beans, yes I would haggle.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
It is perfectly possible to haggle with Tesco, or similar. For example two books for £7 where you want one not in the offer can occasionally be overcome.
Also, what if a book has a crease on the front cover - would you still pay full price for it? I wouldn't!
Re the Porsche, it is precisely because people like yourself are willing to put dealers on the spot like that that you can afford a Porsche, and good luck to you. You own my dream car, so if ever you fancy swapping for a Skoda Octavia Estate, let me know!:T:rotfl:If you want proper advice, please consult a legal professional. I am not one! Thanks.0 -

In the context of what i was responding to "The belief that only one side of the deal gets to set the price makes no sense at all.", it is not our "right" to be able to haggle money off the price.
If the car is the cheapest already, why should we have any right to a further discount to the point whereby we feel aggrieved or dont buy the car, just because we didnt get to "haggle". I think sometimes people need to look at the bigger picture.0
