I might be missing something here, but why would you expect ebay to act as a mediator between you and the seller?
I could see your point if it was something that you purchased recently and was within the timescale allowed for an ebay or paypal dispute, but as this clearly isn't the case, ebay have no responsibility at all.

Where would you draw the line with expecting assistance from ebay? 90 days, 1 year, 2 years?
Why not the full 6 years that the SOGA allows you to attempt action against a seller?

But when did you FIRST notify the seller about the problem of the necklace coming apart? The first few days, first month? You haven't said. In your original post you mention requesting (and receiving) the missing gift box, but no mention about exactly when you raised an issue with the quality of the item, save saying that you have now had it for 3 months and that the seller hasn't responded in the last 3 weeks.

To be honest you sound incredibly childish, but, meh - what do I know.

    I've been Money Tipped!
If this was Amazon, what would you do?

It's exactly the same thing. You bought from an online seller. You're no longer happy with the item. You need to persue it in the same way you would with Amazon or any other sole online seller. Ebay have nothing to do with it any more as you're outside of their guarantee.

Personally, I'd leave it - my time is worth more to me than £20, and I'd have moaned about it long before 3 months were up if it bothered me that much.

I agree with the above- I've never been afraid to ask for the money back on substandard things- but straight away!

I will do, some good points to the contrary on here and I respect them. The issue was legitimate but to be honest I was making a mountain out o a molehill. It was more a case of seeing how other companies dealt with such issues and also to see what people on here thought so thanks all for the input. I've given up pursuing it and will simply bend the item :D

Honestly? That i'm too nice (or authoritarian :D) when dealing with SOGA returns (which are within the 6 month period but reported after a few months) for the merchant platform I work for.

Oh and that Ebay is pretty dire in comparison to the rest.
