Don't be so hard on yourself. It's a crowded market place with lots of different products...it can be hard to unpick what's what.0 -

I was actually talking about you...
One is a device specifically designed for reading the other a device designed to do lots of different tasks (one of those includes reading but does not do it as well as the device specifically designed for reading)"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have a kindle I don't use so I will see how she gets on with that.
Please can I hear from a few Siri users - does it works well? could she dictate an email or call someone on skype? or play some music Given that she is alone much of the day, she might welcome interaction with a machine with personality.
If its Siri, then does that limit to iPad or is there an Android equivalent. I could google it but I am interested in hearing from actual USERS in the senior category.
Evi is the same as siri and is available on android it's what siri is actually based on"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. Anyone using "Google Now?" - grateful for any feedback on it and comparison with Siri if you have used both.0

Ipad cannot be beaten by Android. Get the 9.7 inch screen. My Nook Android tablet is well inferior to the Apple offering. It seems to stick a bit. Siri is more than adequate on the Ipad.
An 80 year old needs a smooth operation for a computing experience like the rest of us.0 -
There are videos on YouTube showing siri in action (and in comparison vs android version too), which are better than any description.
By the way you might take a look at "Bloom" by Brian Eno http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpnECJRf10A0 -
As an example of siri. My wife made a mistake and said sorry. Siri replied "No need to say sorry"This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

One thing you might find a struggle with is terminology. If you can get to see her frequently in the early stages it might not be such a problem, but my mother had to upgrade from an Amstrad email phone to a 'proper' computer, and we still struggle to communicate about problems. "My google isn't working" could mean anything from "I can't connect to the internet" to "I've accidentally shut my browser and I don't know how to open it again."
A regular one is "I can't see my email properly", which means she's accidentally clicked on the 'Restore down' icon on her browser.
I tell her till I'm blue in the face what things are called, but it doesn't sink in.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks everyone. I have just got an ipad 4 for her. I should get it in a couple of days. I will have to get used to it myself before I can pass it on.
I intend to remove most of clutter from it.
Would be grateful for any suggestions for Apps.
So far I have: Siri, Wordment and Wordwarp.0 -
