I am after a windows 7 pc, which is reasonably good, and future proof.

Every computer nowadays seems to have windows 8. the computer is for someone who is not techy, is used to windows xp, and wants windows 7, and actively does not want windows 8.

Any suggestions on reputable places to go, would be fantastic.

There is a possible one from Palicomp, anyone got views of this company or any other would be much appreciated

many thanks

    Sixth Anniversary
Try the business sections of the online retailers and manufacturers.

Zoostorm from eBuyer. You can also buy OEM Windows 7 and install yourself.

Amazon have some windows 7 professional laptops.

I understand that MS has agreed to continue support for win 7 pro following lobbying by the business community. If that is correct, then the Pro version is the way to go, in my view.

It also depends on what the person wants it for. If it is just emails and web browsing, you might consider a chromebook. It is not a win 7 machine, but it looks, acts, and feels like a normal win 7 laptop. It is limited in that for most things you do need to be on-line, as any saved docs go into online storage rather than an on board hard drive, but if they do want to store docs etc that is very quick and easy to do.

    Hope this helps

    Highly recommend Palicomp
They sell very high spec PC's with Windows 7 as an option to Windows 8 /8.1 at no extra cost.
The base configuration can be adjusted to suit your requirement / budget.
They also get excellent reviews in the computer magazines.
Just about to order another one from them.

Refurb That do a range of refurbs all with W7. Mainly Dells. I installed one a couple of weeks ago and it was in 'as new' condition and with a 12 month warranty.

I'm on my second PC from here:
    http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/pcs/
and although some people have reported problems with them, both of my purchases were fine and the only time I needed aftersales service it was provided in very good time.

You can choose which OS you want and with W7 you can opt for Home premium, Professional or Ultimate.

Win7 support is through to 2020 at least, according to MS' life cycle guide :)

As previously advised try looking at "business" pc's. You just need to look at the specs carefully.

    You could try pcworldbusiness.co.uk
