You could always try a pill gun.

Towel method does work but you need to hold jaws closed and rub the purring bit where head neck join gently at same time & cat usually swallows - job done. Old vet showed us that one years back.

I buy a bag of really strong smelling cat treats. Put the tablet in the bag, shake it up and then give the cat one tablet and a couple of the treats/biscuits. Works really well with one of them (luckily the other you just have to make a bit of noise with a packet and then 'accidentally' drop something on the floor and he's scoffing it before it bounces!

Butter works like a charm. The tablet sticks to it and it is very hard to seperate the tablet from the butter so it should glide down the throat no problem :)

I wouldn't force it down either- it will make next time a lot harder and affect your relationship with your cat :)

Thanks to all, yesterday I tried "gluing" the pill to a cat treat using some of that hairball paste, and it worked.

Will try cheese too. Meat would always work but I find difficult to keep fresh meat on the fridge all the time without it going off...

Whiskas Treats. Cut one in half and press the pill into it.

Sometimes I put in creamy cheese and put it *on* the top of my cat's paw. Cats don't like things on their fur - they have an instinct to clean so she'll lick it off and eat it that way.

Avoid actively putting it her mouth where possible - it's more likely to cause stress than anything!
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

I've done that using the hairball paste and mashing pills in the past, but this one I'm not sure he'll eat it.. i think he'll lick whatever I put on his paw and discard the pill!!

My cat has been just got her T4 results back from the vet. I have managed 2 pills but really need some good ideas to get her to eat the pill with no stress. It needs to be something that my husband can do easily if I am not there. Going shopping later going to try some food tricks. Someone mentioned hot dogs

With mine. I kneel down get him inbetween my legs and hold him there. Then using finger and thumb separate jaw and drop pill in wait till he swallows.

Usually does the trick when the other methods don't work,

I wrap Barney in a towel, lay him across my lap and open his jaws with one hand and pop the pill in with the other. we did this with previous cat Nicki who had daily pills too. with first cat we used a syringe type device to hold the pill - as we were in danger of losing our fingers if he got his jaw free!
the vet showed us how to get the cat to open jaw. there is a knack to it, but its easily learned.
