"Normally I assume that things with my name on are addressed to me and things with someone else's name on are addressed to someone else"
I never look at the address/name details on any post that comes through my letter box. So if it turns out to be for someone else: tough.
If I wasn't the only adult in the house I would look first though. All that glitters is not gold.0 -
Eh?
Normally I assume letters coming to my address are for me, not for some random unknown Joe Blogs, so naturally I'd open a letter coming to my address through my letterbox. I think most people would too be honest.
I've posted it back, but as I said, the letter says there will be follow up letters (ie a PIN for the card I just returned).
Posting it back isn't 'sorting' it, that's just a head in the sand response if you don't mind me saying so.
here we go again, someone else who 'assumes'. My advice? Don't; check first and you will find many things in life become a little easier, sometimes a lot easier. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Seems even if OP opened it knowingly, they did the right thing....in Wales anyway!

Send that back too.
Banks have (or at least should have) procedures to deal with cases when post is being returned to them as Addressee Gone Away or Addressee Unknown etc. Its not putting your head in the sand but triggering the correct processes without having the Data Protection issues of you trying to phone them etc.0
