From Malaga:
Nerja is great, but hot. We survived but air con and siestas are a must. La herradura down the coast is about a sixth of the size with a great beach and really Spanish.
From reus: Cambrils is where I'm off too again soon
From girona: callela de palafrugell, la franc, San felix de gioxuls
Definitely consider Santa eulalia or the northern most resorts on Ibiza0 -
Thank you everyone for all the advice.
I see that everyone has a favourite place and right now there are probably 20 locations that I've been recommended ah
I checked a few of them and see why you like them.
I'm going to see which one is more suitable for us.
THanks0 -

That's what is so great about Spain - it has something for everyone. The hard part is deciding what you actually want from a holiday.0 -
I'm always fascinated about what posters on this forum actually decide? PM me if you can be bothered - maybe in September- with a trip report?0

If you fancy somewhere a little different in Spain, why not try the Costa del La Luz? Fly into Faro ( Portugal) and then approx. 1 hr to the Spanish border. It is lovely, Beaches Fab, Atlantic coast, so breezy. Not too commercialised, lovely towns like Ayamonte.
You have the donana National park, Seville ( where you can also fly into) Cordoba, The Algarve itself, etc.
It is where the Strawberries come from, when you buy them Feb/March time in the UK. You see them selling them on the side of the road on carts. Also it is where the best Tinned/Jarred Tuna comes from ( Abalone Tuna) Orange groves line the roads, you can pick oranges and lemons as you stroll by.
It was setting itself up to be the next big resort in Spain, but then came the crash, so there are loads of places to stay, should be cheaper as they need tourists, but is one of the nicest parts of Spain to visit. My mate actually has a 3 bed house out there , I borrow every now and then. It is great and totally relaxing.
Have a look at it, you may be surprised by the area.0 -
Don´t rent or buy at Cala de Mijas / Riviera with agents InterHouse Property Services S.C in Malaga
I just want to share the most terrible experience I had this summer. I rented an appartment at EL SALADO , which is part of Urbanizaci!n Riviera del Sol in Riviera.
As soon as I moved in I realized the house and the entire area had cockroaches. They were huge and all over the place: on my bed, over the kitchen counter, even inside the fridge and mixed up with my food.
The owner and the real estate agance InterHouse Property Services S.C refused to help and pay for disinfestation.
I eventually had to move out and pay for a room in a shared apartment. It was a traumatic experience.
On top of that, the area was ver loud and had noises form the highway and the bathroom was very old and dirty and it stank.
It is not worth investing a penny in that area nor treating these agents.
I hope this helps avoid other making the same mistake.

Thank you for the reply DomRavioli.
I was just searching and noticed that Malaga it's actually a quiet nice place to visit. It has some nice places like El Torcal Natural Park and Alcazaba.
I am looking for things like the one I've mentioned above(natural scenery, quiet places, close to the beach side but at the same time has some other natural beauties close by) and the possibility to do some activities (for children or family) -- maybe I'm asking too much ahah
7 people are going(including children under 17 and adult of course)
Time is August, possibly around the middle but I'm flexibly during that period of the month.
What I am trying to do at the moment, is look for a flight, book it and then check holiday accommodations available for my dates (as the number of people is quiet high)
The budget I have isn't high, not sure how far I can stretch at the moment.
What I found so far is around £150 pp for flight + £700 for all per stay, this is a general price I found across a few locations that I've requested(this is by doing DIY).
I'm trying to get something cheaper but if the deal is good then I can go a bit higher.
Personally I don't like Malaga much (and I love Spain)... I was there for a month once (language course) and found it distinctly average, with a dirty beach. The airport is useful as a gateway to the many wonderful places in the region.
I loved Barcelona but again am not sure whether it would appeal to children.0
