Dont believe the Mercs in USA differ from the UK that much to have a hardtop convertible on a model that is soft top/ non-convertible here.
The E Class Cab is the only current soft top convertible merc which does have a reasonable boot but at 50% more cost than a Chrysler 200 I doubt it'd be in the same group.
I have/had no idea what a merc convertible is like, I only know what the generally available rental convertibles are like in the USA.
As someone else posted you should get to choose from a pool of vehicles, BUT when I rented the Mustang they had no convertibles in the lot so I had to wait for a convertible to come back0 -

I have/had no idea what a merc convertible is like, was purley an example of a price hike for anything other than the norm, I only know what the generally available rental convertibles are like in the USA.

I've just done a quick search on Google (I'm stuck at work and very bored) and found the following figures.
The boot capacity of the Chrysler 200 with the top up is 13.3 cubic feet but lower the top and this drops to only 7.0 cubic feet.
To get an idea of what this actually relates to, consider the boot space of a 2014 Ford Focus which is 13.2 cubic feet so the convertible with the top down will have about half the luggage capacity of a Focus.0 -
I find that soft luggage is the answer to most convertible boot capacity problems.0

The problem isnt just the volume but the shape of what is left. The Lexus and Chrysler end up with a triangular profile to the boot space, wider at the bottom than the top. Ok for a soft bag that you can mould to shape but not potentially suitable for a rigid suitcase.
An SL has 12.9 cubic feet with the roof down but a moderate amount of it is in two side "cubes" which is fine for a vanity case (or probably more accurately allows golf clubs to fit) but you arent going to be getting a suitcase in those sections. The E-Class has 10.5 cubic feet so technically smaller but we could fit out two large suitcases in one when borrowing a friends which we couldnt do in an SL0 -
Don't forget, a chrylser 200 has fairly generous back seats. Roof down, chuck cases in the back (you won't get them past the front seats otherwise) then close the roof when you park. Simples.0
