Well if they can put a system in place to charge when this happens then surely they can put in a system to inform the customer of the charge.0 -
Oh we totally accept that it was our fault for not checking the statements, and missing a payment. I can't remember when I was aware of the late fee but it wouldn't have crossed my mind that the balance transfer rate wouldn't have stood (dumb maybe but we don't miss payments usually and I've never really had disputes with credit cards either). I wouldn't have expected a code for a balance transfer to work if we had broken our t&c's (without realising it), that's my main problem here!
We havent used credit cards much so setting up a dd didn't really cross our minds btw, it was a temporary debt so
Devilsadvocate - totally my feeling about this!
Peacefulwaters - I don't think they should have charged the interest to me, we used them in good faith and would have gotten another card if we thought it was a problem, so to be completely happy they would need to refund all the interest but splitting it would be a fair aim I believe.
I just get so disheartened with banks nowadays

That's their problem if they wish to offer BTs to millions this way.Thrugelmir wrote: »Hence why the T&C's ultimately rule.
No. If I had a penny for everytime somebody on these boards said something to that effect...
Just because the T&Cs say something doesn't mean it's legally binding, particularly when the products concerned are as highly regulated as CCs.
Besides, we don't know even know what the T+Cs say in this case.0 -

It seems "the code" didn't work. If it had, you would not have been charged interest.
That they accepted a balance transfer may well have had nothing to do with "the code".0 -
When the code is typed in, it says it has been accepted. You would think that would bind them to at least notifying you of anything different to what you applied for? I don't think that is unreasonable.0

I agree totally. I think you have good chance of getting the interest refunded, though you might have to escalate to the FOS. Suggest you try one more time on the phone, then follow up in writing (to the CC) if necessary.
(I suspect some of the posters here were so eager to talk about direct debits, checking statements and how you lose the deal if you miss a payment, that they missed the key issue!)0 -

Yes so do I.
They get worse everyday.
Hope you get it sorted out.0
