Not quite house will be his rest of the estate shared out and after expenses that will be about £1000 .
I am trying to sort as much as i can or at least give a guide to avoid unneeded stress .To that end i will sort out the initial new suppliers of services as and when via MSE keeping prices as low as possible .0 -
Council tax also needs sorting.
If he can't pay the bills till he gets his money, then how is he going to run the house going forward? if there is only £1k that will not last long.
assume the eldest is over 18
Getting the bills transfered ASAP to the person living in the place makes the estate admin a bit simpler as you can use the same readings for DOD and the new person without having the estate in the middle.
Is there a will who are the executors?
In our case the insureres did a change to executors free of charge and we got a small refund as the cover dropped if the son is going to occupy then that will need a ploicy, it may be the cuurent one will be useable if he was allready in occupation.0 -
OP
You need to tell the deceased's bank he has died. They will freeze the account. As stated you cannot prioritise the debts apart from funeral expenses. The bank will release funds to settle the funeral account.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

In practice you can prioritise the timing of the payments as long as they all get paid the right amount, which for a solvent estate is in full.
A creditor is not going to get anywhere trying to sue because you paid them a few weeks later than another creditor, if they ever found out.0
