Problems printing complete web page with Chrome

I am using Chrome on my pc (long story but I had problems with latest version of IE on my win 7 Pro). All seemed fine until I need to print out a webpage (warranty confirmation for something I had bought).

I pressed CtlP as usual and the screen displayed ready for printing but when the print preview appeared, it displayed only the left hand 1/3rd of the full screen, thus cropping off most of the detail. The "scale" or "fit to page" options available with most browsers were missing. I tried various options but could not get the entire web page screen to print.

I looked it up online and there were various references to this problem and suggestions to go to Google Chrome store and buy one of a number of plug ins. I selected one of these but when I clicked to download it, got a warning message that downloading it would enable the app to see all my users and other apps. !!!!!!? So I closed it.

Is this actually a known Chrome issue and if so, is there a workaround or fix which does not entail giving a third party access to my pc?

  • Hi usignuolo

I need some more information from you if I was to try and help you with this issue.

In the address bar of Google Chrome please visit the following address:

    chrome://version/

Copy the entire page and reply back with that information.
  • Web pages are not designed to be printed and often do not fit the format of an A4 sheet of paper. So whereas we see the webpage as similar to a page in a book a computer does not. It will read the code as columns and tables etc.

So what is happening when you print is that the PC is taking the top left of the webpage as the starting point and trying to fit in as much of the webpage as it can when printing. Sometimes this does not work and it cuts off the image, or you can even have blank sections.

The google chrome CRTL P option should obviously fix this issues above, but it seems not too. So what you need to do is try and print another way. I have found two options for you.

    (1) Use the Windows print options as shown on this webpage

    (2) Save as a PDF via the Google Chrome print options and then try and print the PDF via the Windows print options.

Fingers crossed one of these works.

Ctrl P worked fine with IE. OH says it works with Firefox. Seems to be a particular issue with Chrome.
