Can you look to the right and the left at the same time?
Of course not - but you can scan from left to right to left to right to left ................
Keep looking in all directions - don't just look once in each and then carry on without looking again, and again, and again .........
Of course you could just get someone to help you - the banksman we mentioned earlier.0 -

If you're so adamant that the person reversing couldn't be expected to see the approaching car, what would have happened if the hazard had been something less visible - like a pavement cyclist, or a pedestrian?
Everyone involved should be aware what's going on around them.
The person reversing has to watch behind and in both directions and manoeuvre slowly and carefully, any other drivers should be able to spot a car reversing in time to avoid a collision and cyclists and walkers the same.
If it's expected that we watch for things behind our cars when we're reversing, it's just as important that we watch for things in front of us as well, especially if we're doing something unexpected like driving on the wrong side of the road.0 -

Driver reversing off driveway was a tool..... End of.
People need to stop doing this, I saw some pillock reversing off a drive and onto a dual carriageway last week, I had to sound my horn as I approached because I couldn't see the driver and they couldn't see the road they were reversing on to!!!!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

A few years ago, my Dad was involved in a collision. He was reversing out of his drive and was hit by a neighbour's car. Both parties felt the other were at fault, it went to court and my Dad was found not to be liable. The other person's insurance had to pay for all the repairs. So it's not always cut and dried that the reversing driver is automatically at fault.
I believe that in this case, the other car was found to be driving too fast, or else they would have been able to stop and / or my Dad would have seen the oncoming car before he started the manoeuvre. My parents had been reversing out of their drive for 30 years without incident prior to this.0
