How accurate are the estimated costs on energy bills?

I'm quite confused about whether to switch energy supplier or not!
I have been with Scottish Power for over a year on a fixed tariff which has recently ended. So, obviously being an MSE convert I rushed off to look for a better deal.
However the cheap energy club estimates that current costs are £1130 a year when I am actually paying £50/month dual fuel so only £600 a year! I've been keeping my meter readings up to date and even after what felt like a cold winter, I am still £50 in credit going into the summer.
Obviously the savings are based on what they think I am paying now to Scottish Power but all estimated new costs are well over what I am currently paying. Is it likely that they are ALL overestimated and I can still save money?

What data are you imputing to get these estimates?
How many kwh have you used in the past year? This actual usage from meter readings will be far more accurate than estimated usage or comparison using £s.
Side note: I'm not sure where you live, but I thought this winter was supposed to be one of the mildest we've had in quite sone time? (Not sure how much if the country that applies to)0 -
Maybe I'm just a cold wimp and/or our house is hard to keep warm!
Yeah I checked and I hadn't actually input the data from last years bills - when I did the estimates for switches dropped way down and made a lot more sense. Weird that the estimates for our house are double what we actually used though!Savings target: £25000/£25000

Don't worry, I'm a cold wimp too
Estimates for our house are much higher than our actual usage too, mostly because we have less people than bedrooms - obviously heating will be the same, but hot water is less and electric is much much less.
Glad you're sorted

Yes, no one should take the last winter as a norm. It was the mildest on record, whereas I thought the winter before had the longest spell of really cold weather from November to the middle of April. I m out in it all day . Using last years usage as a yardstick will be too low.mildredalien wrote: »Maybe I'm just a cold wimp and/or our house is hard to keep warm!
