Can you paint over most patterned wallpapers aslong as they're not textured/coated?
Do you have any tips for painting over wallpaper? Anything I need to look out for? If the paper starts to bubble, should I stop and consider re-papering with lining paper?

you can paint over wallpaper but some will take paint better than others
it is really hard to comment on your situation as we dont know what your paper is like, but as long as it is not vinyl coated or really shiny i would give it a go, try a small area first and if it doesnt take or looks rubbish then strip the room
if it is the blown vinyl type paper then it should take paint all right
as for bubbles when the paper gets wet from the paint it will bubble and blister if it is not stuck on 100% but when the paint dries the bubble should go back down and not really show0 -
Depending on which paint you use, expect to have to apply at least two coats, possibly three. If it is Farrow and Ball, make it five.If you are changing the colour significantly (esp. from red or orangey tones) it is worth giving it one coat of goose wing grey http://dulux.trade-decorating.co.uk/servlet/ColourAvailabilityHandler?name=goosewing to neutralise the stronger hue before starting with the new colour.
What type of paint do you intend to use?0 -
We painted over our patterned wallpaper and it looks great, it wasn't washable. But try and paint a bit behind your settee or a bit of furniture first to see what it looks like.0

Thanks everyone!
There is one room that is painted almost black, which is gna be a git to cover up. As far as the wallpaper goes, it's just feature walls that shouldn't really be feature walls. I want to paint over them and then have a more appropriate feature wall to tie the room together
Not sure what paint I'll be using yet, we're heading over to wickes and b and q to have a look this week.0 -
I've never had wallpaper that hasn't been painted over sooner or later, textured never been a problem but can imagine anything with a shiny finish wouldn't take. On relection lightly textured is ideal for painting.0
