I've got back from a week away and my laptop sadly seems to have almost given up the ghost. It is painfully slow and I can't even watch 4OD as the picture keeps sticking and reloading. You lovely people helped me get rid of FB Downloader a while ago and a side effect was it sped up considerably. Just wondered if anyone had any further advice? Also am aware at 6.5 years old it may just be natural decline but as per MSE spirit don't really want to replace it if I don't have to.

streaming problems are more likely to be down to your internet connection or 4od, try a wired connection, check the sync speed on the router, and do a speedtest
there is no natural decline in computer hardware, they work, or they don't.
Software bloat can slow them down, easily fixed by removing - see speedup sticky again, post a hijackthis log, or backup and factory restore.!!

Have a look at Task Manager, at the Performance tab, to see whether you're running at 100% CPU for long periods of time. (I've just had to deal with an Inspiron 1545 with a (slow) Celeron 900 CPU at 2.2 GHz, where even Windows Updates can hold the CPU figure at 100%!).
Then look at the Processes tab, and click on the "CPU" column-heading, to sort the CPU usage by each task. Which task(s) appear at the top with large CPU usages? This will vary with time, but you might see something interesting.0 -
Thanks both for the quick replies. BB test results are download speed 4,551 kbps and upload speed 458 kbps. Also redone the actions in the sticky but even after a reload definitely takes more than 60 secs to get switched on and online. Hijack logs to follow. Also not sure what I'm doing wrong but can't seem to find the CPU details, how do I post an image?0

Won't let me post logs for some reason..0

workaround to hijackthis log problem is mentioned in the sticky, speedtest is ok, if 40d buffers try iplayer
best results are always found by backing up data and reinstalling W7, then if you backup using macrium, you can easily do it again in future!!

It appears that you purchased Windows 7 Professional along the way. Do you still have the disc and product key?0
