critical illness, sickness and redundancy cover

I took out critical illness, sickness and redundancy cover in 2005 with Halifax.I can't remember whether it was taken out as one product as standard or whether you only picked certain parts you would of needed?
Am I best to ring and ask them if it was standard to have all three elements or just fill in a claim form anyway? I am self employed and always have been so I'm assuming I would be able to claim because of the redundancy insurance.

Halifax is a multi-segment policy. Bits are added as needed.Am I best to ring and ask them if it was standard to have all three elements or just fill in a claim form anyway?
It is standard to have what meets the financial need.
What is your complaint?am self employed and always have been so I'm assuming I would be able to claim because of the redundancy insurance.

I did wonder that but couldn't remember. So if the redundancy side of it was included I wouldn't be able to claim considering I could never be made redundant?0

You could have claimed on the insurance if you were made redundant. You can't, however, complain about the insurance and expect a refund simply because you never suffered a claimable event..So if the redundancy side of it was included I wouldn't be able to claim considering I could never be made redundant?0 -
So I wouldn't have the right to complain if the insurance was built in as standard about redundancy cover and i was self employed.0

Many mortgage payment protection plans will pay unemployment benefit to the self employed and have different criteria under which a claim can be made to the employed.

You have the right to complain about anything you like. However, unemployment cover with MPPI does not suffer the same issues as loan and credit card PPI. This is why most MPPI complaints get rejected.
Most MPPI covers the self employed fine. Typically, no longer trading (not paying class 2 NI) and signed on at the job centre. The choice to no longer trade should not be voluntary. i.e. you cant choose to shut for a year and get insurance paid out. It has to be closure for illness, accident or trade failing.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. With Halifax's TMPP policies you had to involuntarily cease trading to clain unemployment, ie your business has to go bust. There are no issues with sickness claims, same as employed people.0

There is a difference between unemployment and redundancy cover. If it was indeed redundancy cover then it's likely that you wouldn't have been able to use the cover at all, which is bad. If it was unemployment cover then it may simply have been a bit harder to claim as a self employed person, which isn't quite as bad although you have to have been made aware when it was being sold to you. A lot of business failed to make the terms for claiming as a self employed person clear it seems, so you could have a good case there.0

However, most MPPI complaints result in rejection. So, its probably best not to put hopes up. Plus, the TMPP does cover unemployment with the requirements that are generally accepted as being acceptable by the FOS. That said, Halifax are a bit of a walkover on autopayouts. Although that would only apply to the MPPI part of the TMPP. The critical illness cover is not PPI and they will not rollover on that.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thankyou for all your advice. I think I will put forward a claim and see what happens. It may of been that I didn't pay for the redundancy aspect of the insurance and if that's the case then I'm happy. That's the only reason Id put in the claim. Also if they write back saying I would of qualified for the redundancy cover being self employed then that's fine too.I'm more than happy that I paid for critical illness and sickness cover.0
