Kitchen Purchase

Options
Hi All

After a bit of advice on my current situation and options open to me.

I will type up the full story soon but to cut it short for a quick response basically, I purchased a kitchen from the local DIY store(£13000), in Febuary things all going to plan given 14th April as fitting date. Fitters came to view job 8 weeks before this were they gave me a date of 17th April when the template would be done for new worktops. Still all good and fitters finished early on the 15th April, I called template firm up to see if could be moved to 16th day earlier, this was all organised by the DIY store, I was informed that a waiting list of 4 weeks was an issue and that I had not been booked in for the 17th April. I contacted the DIY store to be told we will get right on it and sort it out. A week and and half later I had to call the template firm myself and book myself in. I have been given some temp. worktops and a temp. sink and a electric 2 hob plug in burner to use until the date I arranged comes around. The template is being done on the 19th May and the worktops should be getting fitted on the 28th May. I have been left like this now since 16th April. Where do I stand for compensation? any ideas these has been a couple of other issues along the way made by the same DIY company as well which have added to the upset.

Thanks for reading the long story would be pages long.

    What are your losses?

They provided you with alternatives to use. You moved the date and that seems to have messed things up as well.

They've done what they can. Stop chasing compo.

I did not alter any dates, I had never been booked in for the template to be done since I ordered the kitchen, although I had been given the 17th by the DIY stores fitters, the DIY company had not booked me and it later turned out after I had already booked myself when the DIY company had done nothing for a week and a half. I was all down to a disclaimer sheet which the DIY company had not given me. I took them a week and a half to find this out.
Also they provided me with nothing compared with what I had purchased, a electric 2 hob camping style cooker, is not a 5 burner gas hob, how is a family of 4 meant to cook meals on this?
So before you start making out I am in it just for compo, consider I will have been without a fully functioning kitchen for a month and half, unable to cook decent meals for 2 children (7 & 10). and woulds have been no the wiser if I had not asked to bring the templating forward.

Some claims are genuine on here and this is one of them so if you are not going to help or give advice save everyones time and dont reply.:mad:

    Thanks

Write up your losses and put it to them then. Have you spent extra money on ready meals etc.

You can't just pluck figures from the air. You are entitled to your losses, anything over that is goodwill for the inconvenience.

Have you even asked them for anything?

Try helping someone without being so rude, it might make you feel a better person.

OP I'd certainly get on to the companies Head Office and ask the for a good will gesture (same as the C word) for all the pain you have been through.

Unlike most on here I believe a company should offer some gesture when they mess up, it's a very good way of improving their performance.

A goodwill gesture would be nice but is not a legal requirement. If the OP has no losses then they are due nothing.

    Im not being 'rude'

They are not entitled to anything. Sounds like they havent even asked for anything.

I believe everyone makes mistakes, even huge companies. They have provided a temp worktop, hob, and a sink. What else can we expect people to do when they make a mistake? 'Compensation' too as well as doing what they can to make it easier?
