Print wont work Canon PIXMA iP4950

Having trouble getting a printer which is new to me to work which has previously worked on another machine.
Printer shows in the list of hardware, as far as I know I have downloaded the correct driver, all new inks fitted and all lights are on and all leads plugged in.
Documents get as far as being put in a list to print and then nothing what am I doing wrong, I have a Toshiba laptop using windows 7.

Any help gratefully accepted because I'm about to loose the will to live

Is your antivirus or firewall stopping it ?

you got the drivers from the supplied disk? or downloaded from canon website? if not, you'll want to do this

downloaded from an alternative website just wondering if it was the right website!! Have removed it and now searching for the canon website to see if I can find the one I want.
