catalogue default

Hi, I hope someone can give me some advice.

A few years ago I found myself a single parent and was hard paying my debts, I went to cab who helped me make arrangements with my creditors, I had two catalogues which I never seemed to pay off, was only agreement y hundred left, cab advised me if the companies didn't have a copy of my signed agreement on file I could get the debt written off. They wrote to them for me and as I didn't sign anything they got the debt wrote off.

The problem is this is now showing on my credit report every month that I have defaulted and is a balance outstanding. I did write to them to ask these to be removed but they said no. I have another year until the default comes of my file.

After looking online I came across something which says if I did not sign a agreement they need my permission to record something on my credit report. Is this correct? If so what do I do? I cant see why I am being penalised for them not having an agrrement from me.

Any help be great. Thanks x

Any help. Pay them what you owe. You took the stuff quickly but now your screwing them over.

Thanks for making credit more expensive for everyone else.

You're not - you are being recorded as not having paid the agreement you entered into - which you admit you did not.

They are seemingly not chasing you for the money so you should count yourself lucky.

Presumably you accepted the goods - and made some payments?

Thanks for your useful reply. I paid them 10 fold back on everything I brought, cab advised me if anyone who had a catalogue before 2007 and they did not sign an agreement then you do not have to pay it so why should I when I didn't sign an agreement with them!

    Some useful advice be nice!

Its okay op, you wont be able to order from them again just like they dont need to remove the default. shopdirect own a lot of brands so it will exclude a lot
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I didn't enter into an agreement with them as I didn't sign anything! I would never have a catalogue again anyway so not bothered by that.

I want to know if you've not signed an agreement can they put something on your credit file?

CAB are basically telling you to screw the catalogue company over then?

You BOUGHT the goods from them YOU USED them now you want to pretend you never screwed them over.

You should make good on the balance. You agreed to pay them back x amount a month.

If the debt is prior to 2007 then the lender has to be able to provide the original credit agreement other wise the debts uneforceable isn't it?

Unfortunately you won't get an answer here (and I don't know). The majority of 'experts' who hang out here are paid up members of the 'holier than thou' brigade, as you've discovered.

Not really. Would you be happy if you loaned someone money and they screwed you over?

Possibly, possibly not. Technically regardless of a written credit agreement, they loaned you something that you promised to pay back. You didn't pay it back. You have an obligation to pay it back.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
