Hi all,
My daughter is expecting her first child and will be moving out of our home in July, to live with her boyfriend and his mother. He doesn't work but is doing an accountancy course which is one of these study from home courses. My question is, is he entitled to any type of benefit ?? I am worried that my daughter is making a wrong move by moving in with them and will struggle with everything as her only income will be income support. He tells me he is not entitled to anything, but surely this cannot be true. He is 18.
Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

He is entitled to get a job.0

your daughter wont get income support if she moves in with her boyfriend, as all means tested benefits have to be claimed as a couple.
does he receive student finance?
is he actively seeking work?

Totally agree, trouble is it seems the more I moan about him not having a job the further its going to push my daughter away from me.
He does not receive any finance and says he is actively seeking work but is yet to be witnessed by myself.0 -
Does your daughter work?[0

so he is claiming JSA?
up until her 29th week of pregnancy, they have to make a joiunt claim... with both actively seeking work.
at 20 weeks your daughter can claim income support and add him to her claim.
she can claim income support until baby is 15 weeks okd and then they will have to return to JSA, but with only him needing to seek work.
depending on age they will get a MAXIMUM of £112 a week between them.
after baby is born they can claim child benefit and child tax credits of around another £80 a week combined
