Proof of deposit

Hi,

I've been given some money in cash from my wedding, which I intend to use as a mortgage deposit. The conveyancer's have asked that we provide details of all gifts, but we were literally gifted by 20-30 people from countries abroad. It won't be possible for me to get bank statements from everybody as to be honest I don't even communicate with half of this family.

I was intending to just say I had the money in cash from my wedding, but the conveyancers want bank statements which is not possible. My mortgage would be with Halifax. Does anyone know what their policy is and if I have any chance of getting the mortgage offer under these circumstances?

Thanks

DCC

Why can't you provide a bank statement?
  • I can only provide my bank statement. With a lump some going in to my account. I can't give the bank statements for the 30 people that gave us money for our wedding presents

This has cropped up before. I'll have a search (unless anyone beats me to it).

We completed a purchase a week ago. Some of the money for our deposit was from wedding gifts from a large number of different people. I just put something like "wedding gifts from numerous people" on the form and the solicitor was happy with that...

As long as it is in the bank it will be fine.

Evidently not, according to the OP. Lots of unidentifiable cash recently deposited in the account is the sort of risky scenario they're trying to avoid. It's more of a question to ask the solicitors than the lender, as it's the solicitors' money-laundering regulations which are relevant.
