Why is Skoda ranked so high in most surveys?

I picked up my new Octavia a couple a month ago and am 4000 miles in with it.

It was a elegance spec auto estate with a p11d of 24k but it feels significantly better in absolutely every way than my last two company cars which both had a p11d of 35k. I cannot find a single fault with it. I will feel better qualified to comment after a year and 50k of miles but initial impressions are brilliant.

Basically what motorguy said in post #20.

People buying VAG's top notch premium brand (Bugatti) will likely kick up a stink if after 2 months the ashtray is full (slight exaggeration) but a Skoda buyer whose car develops a rattle which is then fixed for free by the dealer will likely go away happy.

Then you get the thing where Skoda get the older technology, but it's technology that's been around for a while and has had all the faults weeded out through revisions.

Actually it does, and it's called Acura - but they don't currently sell their cars in the UK.
