I had one of the faulty Scottish Hydro meters

Hi,
I'm wondering if someone can help me - it was discovered last year (before SH admitted to it) that I had one of the faulty dual rate meters. This was changed free of charge and I was told I wasn't due a refund because in actual fact my bills should have been more but they always put it in the customers favour. I didn't really believe it at the time but now I'm wondering if I should question them again on it? I was very careful when using my energy so always tried to keep things like washing machine and dishwasher to the cheap times. Is there a way I can work out for myself if I should be due a refund?
Also, a separate issue I think - since moving here my bills have been much higher than experienced at previous properties. I've questioned it numerous times. Since the meter change my annual usage has gone down by around 3000 units, could this have anything to do with huge old meter? Whether it was linked to the known fault or something else.
Thanks
