My Dubious Attempt at being a Grown-Up

Not had a moment to breathe this weekend, let alone get anything on my lists done. Couple of meals out on Friday and Saturday, which were both lovely but feeling the expense. Other bits of errands and appointments which all turned out to be unproductive and a waste of time anyway.
Then yesterday helping my mum and dad with their house move, working hard non-stop from lunchtime until 10pm last night. I was so achy by the time we'd finished I couldn't get comfy enough to sleep last night, hence oversleeping this morning!
Talk about burning the candle at both ends, laundry and housework piling up, I look like I've been dragged through a hedge and the studying hasn't been touched. Hopefully get myself a bit more sorted this week!!
To Do List this Week
[STRIKE]Order groceries online[/STRIKE] Done, used sign up offer with sainsbugs, £20 off a £60 shop, made the most of the offers. Did the same with Ocad0 last week. Won't be a regular thing as we normally shop at the big 2 discount supermarkets, definitely not worth it without the sign up offers but gives me one less thing to do this week. Arriving tomorrow.
[STRIKE]Booked tomorrow off work to help my mum clean the new house. Last owners have left it in an absolute mess. Take housewarming present round.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Get my grandma's jacket dry-cleaned. Unfortunate expense but I borrowed it to walk home and got foundation on the collar, can't give it back like that! [/STRIKE] Done - foundation marks came off!
[STRIKE]Take new office chair to work. The one I use now is very uncomfy and I've acquired a new one, so need to squidge it in my little car somehow.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Get new set of drawers upstairs and organise things into them.[/STRIKE]
Try find the time to cook some proper meals and get on top of laundry!0 -
Got an unexpected bonus at work: £250 so that's gone straight into my ISA
Had a day off yesterday to help my mum clean her new house. Did a good few hours cleaning out kitchen cupboards and ran her to the shops but she sent me home at 1pm because "you've got enough of your own to be doing!" True true... :rotfl:
I did a tip-run with all the cardboard that's built up and took mountains of stuff to the charity shop. Topped up petrol and our electricity meter.
Got set of drawers upstairs and put stuff in them and today I've brought the office chair to work. Moved ladders outside.
OH put up the other wardrobe and moved his clothes into that so I'm finally seeing a bit more space!! :T
Also managed to clean and tidy the downstairs, the upstairs is on my list for this evening. And I've just picked up my dry cleaning. So it's been a productive couple of days!
In the spirit of keeping up this momentum:
To-Do List for the rest of the week.
[STRIKE]Enter for December exam[/STRIKE]
Organise birthdays happening before the end of this month inc. [STRIKE]nieces 1st birthday (done) OH's sisters birthday (card bought, most of present bought, just need a top up pressie from Boots and gift bag)[/STRIKE] and best friends present [STRIKE](got card, need present and bunny ears for fancy dress costume). Think I can get all these things from the shopping center on the way home.[/STRIKE] Everything but best friends pressie
[STRIKE]Cooking for mum and dad tomorrow while they get more organised. Need to check cupboards and get any food/drink that I need (just bottled beers & some veg I think)[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Arrange new artificial flowers into vases[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Send old driving licence back to DVLA[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Clean & tidy bathroom & bedroom[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Iron some clothes
[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Buy paint for the living room.[/STRIKE]0 -
Picked up parcel from post office. Full sized bottles of Pantene Age Defy shampoo and conditioner as a free sample - nice surprise! I'm only 25 but have very fine hair so it should be good for it anyway.
Gone through Christmas cards to see what I still need, I got a load in January but still need: 1 for OH, 1 for OH's Mum & Dad, 2 Nan cards, 1 for OH's Auntie and then another box set of about 20 for friends, postman, paperboy etc. I want to get these next time I'm in the vicinity of a card factory. Should be under a tenner.
I did a naughty and got the free £88 beauty box with £50 lingerie spend at M&S that's on the grabbit board. I needed new lingerie anyway and the beauty box is another present ticked off the list.
Also need Dad's birthday card and present. Will try ask Mum what he might want when I see her tonight.
[STRIKE]When I get home I need to have a quick tidy round, sweep and mop the bathroom floor and quick shower.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Prepare some food (cake onto plates, veg in pan, mash in microwave and fish in oven). Go pick my mum and dad up & cook tea.[/STRIKE]0 -
We went to the rescue centre on Saturday and got 9 and 10 week old kittens. Been thinking of getting a rescue animal for a while and finally bit the bullet! Introducing Alan and Sparticus:
So the bank holiday weekend has been spent pet supply shopping, litter changing, feeding and chasing around after the little raggamuffins when they get up to no good (which so far has been...all the time). They seem to have a mad couple of hours playfighting and then settle down to sleep. Both were curled up asleep next to me last night, it was lovely
Left them in the good care of my OH today as he's off work this week. He'll also be attempting to paint the living room. I'm half expecting to come home and find 2 magnolia coloured kittens.
To-Do List this Week
[STRIKE]Get the critters registered at a vets and make an appointment for vaccinations.[/STRIKE] Done - registered at vets, booked in for vaccinations and microchipping on 6th September @ 9.20am.
[STRIKE]Get pet insurance.[/STRIKE]
Arrange an opticians appointment.
Register at the doctors.
Declutter 10 items.0 -
Kitties insured, registered at vets and booked in for their vaccinations/microchipping.
More things to add to the To-Do List
[STRIKE]Clean the dustbin when I get home. It stinks but I keep missing the opportunity to clean it (when I get a spare hour, it's already filled up again!). It's being emptied today and I've asked OH not to put anything in it in the meantime.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Order bin stickers.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Pick up clothes I bought on Facebook selling group. £8. Will pick up Friday morning while I'm off.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Visit sister and her OH (Friday 8pm)[/STRIKE]0 -
Yesterday I got the things done I wanted to get done, visited my Mum and Dad, neatened up the painting in the living room, ironed a few bits.
Just emailed Talk Talk. Our bill which should have been about £25 have come to nearly £90!! they've added an engineer call out charge, but it was their fault the engineer had to come out so I'm hoping they'll take it off. Worth a try anyway, need to money desperately this month.
Tonight's plan is to visit the OH's Mum and Dad (hopefully just about an hour, I don't like leaving the kitties alone all day).
To-Do List for This Week
[STRIKE]Study a chapter of my text book, it's into September so I really need to get onto this now, despite all the millions of jobs that need doing in the house.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Sand down and paint the two bedside cabinets in our bedroom.[/STRIKE]
Buy turf for the garden,[STRIKE] and wallpaper and paint for the living room.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Take the pusscats to the vets on Saturday for their vaccinations and microchips.[/STRIKE]0 -
Checking in, still here. Just very busy. I promise I'll update more regularly from now on. I think the regular checking in keeps me on track and in money-saving mode.
The kittens have been for their second vaccinations and are booked in for their neutering and microchip mid-November, so it'll be getting on for December when they're allowed outside. Bought them a couple of new toys at weekend to keep them entertained, a laser pen which they're obsessed with chasing and a bigger litter tray with a rim so they hopefully stop kicking litter all over my kitchen!
Getting organised for Christmas, got all my cards now, and actually think I'm about 50% done with presents. Ordered a Lipsy bag for my sisters xmas present (£16 down from £50 plus cashback) so that's another ticked off the list.
Only a couple of birthdays between now and the end of the year too, I've got cards for them and just need presents.
Went shopping at weekend and was a bit spendy, bought some new clothes and bedding. I have friends to stay in a few weeks though and I would've been embarrassed to let them sleep in the ratty old bedding we had on it before. And clothes...well, I'm not even going to try and justify the clothes
Cleaned the kitchen and bathroom over the weekend, so the important bits are done. Will try and get a few more bits done this week, including;
*Few more hours studying.
*Clean oven.
*Register at doctors (I know, I've been saying this for months now).
*Change towels and bedding.
[STRIKE]*Declutter 10 things.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]*Get curtain rail up.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]*Give mum and dad some of their stuff back.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]*Pot up living herb for the kitchen
[/STRIKE]
*Hover sofas and the bit in between the kitchen and living room floor.0 -

Hello again :hello: nice to see you back!
However, I'm not appreciating such organisation with regards to Christmas!! I think I should start now...can't be left behind!!
:rotfl: I'm sorry! I got most of my Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the January sales, started off with all good intentions of getting a couple of presents each month and promptly forgot about it for the next 6. Thankfully I've managed to catch up!
It was working out that I only have 3 paydays until the big day that prompted me, and I like to be pretty much finished by 1st December so technically 2 paydays
I have 30 people to buy for, plus it's our first Christmas in our first home so we have all the decorations to buy! If I didn't start in earnest now I think my head would actually fall off.
If I can get nearly finished by early December, get my exam done and dusted in that first week I can hopefully relax and drink copious amounts of mulled wine for the next 3 weeks :beer:0 -

Ok then I forgive you as you have loads more people to buy for than me (I think I'm in the 15 range) and other stuff going on!
(Just typed you have other stuff going on as in, you have other things that will take up your time that I don't - I'm getting blimmin' married in December, I almost forgot!!!! I should definitely be cracking on then actually!!)
It's also our first Christmas in our house but I have a tree & decs from our flat which are still lovely and only a few years old. I will however be expanding my decorations into the hallway so have an excuse to buy more!!! It is our first house after all...! :T:T
I like your mulled wine thinking...you have persuaded me to go start purchasing the gifts I have already identified!!! :T:TDebt Free I FFEF I Building Savings I 2025 Plan:- Regular Savings £9,800/£10,000
