I just prefer the simplicity of Outlook Express.
That's why I have gone for a Win7 laptop instead of a Win8 one, it is slightly different from WinXP but similar enough for me to be at ease with it.
Windows 7 is the natural progression from XP for desktop / laptop computers and is a good replacement.
Whilst XP was a sound system, its technical limitations, especially with regards to useable memory was starting to show its age for some users.
As mentioned earlier, Windows Live Mail is the MS replacement for OE and whilst it may look different, it is just as straightforward to use.
On installation it does tend to guide you towards registering an online account but you can ignore this and just have the standalone program.
Anyway, I am not here to persuade you for one over another, it is your choice..........just ensure you try them for yourself and come to your own preferred choice0 -
Another vote for Thunderbird, plus the Lightning calendar add-on.
Often overlooked, Thunderbird has a very basic browser built in.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

for the OP ... If you do go for Thunderbird, I can recommend using 'Mozbackup' to backup all your e-mails and settings every so often!
