Can I trust the main dealers when buying a used car?
I intend to buy a used car at one of the main dealers - I have not decided whether it is Toyota, Honda, Kia, etc.
My question is: Is it better in terms of car checking and repair service when you buy a used car from a main dealer?
I understand that the price may not be cheap. But can you always trust that they will check the car carefully before selling it to you? And if the car has a problem, the repair service would be quick and smooth?
Thank you

No.
Double no if the dealer in question is Evans Halshaw.0 -
can you trust a used car (any) salesman?
I think you know the answer0 -
There is a reason they are known as 'Stealers'

Glad to know there is at least one topic in MSE motors that everyone agrees on

Be all the above as it may - all other things being equal - you will have much less hassle buying (for example) a used Toyota from a main Toyota dealer, with a 6 months or one year warranty, than if you buy it from A Daly, Oil Drum Lane.
Less problems too than if you were to buy from J Bloggs the Ford agent.
Like everything else, there are good, fair dealers and not so good dealers.
Most dealers want repeat customers and know that if they muck you about they won't get you coming back next time.0 -
I would put used car salesmen in the same trustworthy group as double glazing salesmen, insurance salesmen and vipers.0

If you want to buy used from a main dealer, make sure the car has a full 12 months 'approved used' warranty on it.
You'll pay top dollar, but so long as you buy from a reputable dealer, that's about as good as it gets.0 -

Thank you so much for your sensible opinions. However, I'm still confused.
So, to put it another way, is a main dealer better than a car supermarket like Cargiant?0
