My local Cash Generator has a Arnova G3, 10b GB tablet (8GB) for £79-99.
Any good?
Can it access the internet by itself, or will it need access to a Wi-Fi hotspot?

Cheap but rubbish according to this review, no sign that it incorporates a SIM card in which case you will need access to wifi to get on the internet.

Not much more than £80 you can do better - try the HUDL from Tesco for instance.0

The Hot Deals site is always pretty good for tablet/PC deals. If you look down the list, you'll see some in your price range with comments/feedback on their specs.

for around £100 you can get an HP slate 7 data pass. The data pass is 250mb of data a month for 2 years. The tablet is no worse than any other you'd get for that price and with the included data is a real bargain.
This is the link to the tablet and data pass details on the HP website but it is in store in places like argos and carphone warehouse, and I'm sure other places.
Also, I'm not sure what the guarantees are like from cash generator, but tablets, especially in that price bracket seem to develop faults fairly regularly so you may be safer buying new from somewhere with good after sales service.0 -
Tablets can connect to the internet through most smartphones, so if you have a mobile phone data contract you can use a tablet's Bluetooth or Wifi (or even USB) to go online.TheFlyingGerbil wrote: »for around £100 you can get an HP slate 7 data pass. For a similar price the 9" Nook HD+ has an amazing 1920x1200 screen and is a high-quality tablet, albeit without a sim slot. The HP Slate 7 has a fairly poor screen and, although cheap, doesn't really offer decent value for money.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

Terrible! single core @ 1GHZ SLOWWWWW. 10" screen but no use if it takes a lifetime to do anything. Overpriced if it were new let alone someones cast off that could fall be corrupted or have intermittent issues not spotted by the shop.
Walk away!
If that is your budget and you want something basic with a large screen You can get a brand new 10" Dual core 16GB tablet for £78 with newer Android version, still won't be amazing but far better than that old Arnova.

Avoid, mine lasted a week then the display went bad and the USB socket loose (apparently both known issues, the first HP admitted and the second is mentioned on Hotdeals).
While I would not normally recommend then Currys / PCW have a Nvidea tablet for £100, no 3G though, ordered one yesterday.0 -
Don't buy an HP Slate 7. It has an utterly useless screen, where nothing looks the right shape, popor battery life, and other problems mentioned above.0

Yeah - they're slow specs.
Generally, you'll get a Hudl from Tesco for a similar price, and they're much better.
Moving up, you could go for a Kindle Fire HD - they do refurbs. Just remember that it's not open to full Google play, but the Amazon store is pretty good.
Look for Google Nexus 7 or 10's - they're pretty much the best in the range - I've seen the newer ones on Amazon for £120 ish.
No point in spending £80 on that, TBH.0 -
Probably when you get it first if its your first tablet, you'll think its great but after a while particularly when you add apps it will slow down to a crawl.
Just like a similar spec one I got on amazon.
Ashamed to say I was even on here singing its praises at the time.
nexus 7 is the way to go.
