Water help please

Hello,
Could really use some help

I am a small trader business, united utilities provide our water.
We have been a customer since 1995 and always paid on time.

They cut our water yesterday saying we are not paying customers
They said if we want our water switched back on we would have to pay £1700+vat. It was a scary thought.

The gentleman came back this morning and I showed him all the statements with payments going out, he then conceded and said we still need £100 to fit new water equipment.

I have a feeling I am being conned.
He has a legitimate I.D and they water company confirmed him.

Surely if I am a paying customer since 1995 and have no issues, they cut my water for no reason? I do not want to pay any amount.

What can I do to resolve this in the quickest and easiest way possible????

I really don't know what to do.

Thanks again

Tell them that unless they re-connect you immediately, and pay you compensation for the distress caused by their error, you'll be seeing a solicitor.
  • Ok some update on this.

There is a demolition next door, our water was connected through them.
    The pipe is now gone.

The water utilities people said they are willing to do it for free but only from the front of the property.

Our stop tap is at the back of the property and we would have costs to upgrade the plumbing to the front.

Is there any way to get the utility people to fit it in the back? Or for the demolition people to cover costs? Thanks again
  • Any other help guys?

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper
Obviously United U are confused, and haveing got themselves in a pickle by sending a £1700 demand to a customer who's account is fully paid up, seem to be making other difficulties to cover their embaressment.

    Questions
From your post it seems that you don't have a Water Meter, are you paying Water Rates based on the Rateable Value of the premises ?
Do you own the premises, or are they rented from a Landlord ? - If so does he/she also own the demolished building next door ?
