Hi All,
I am currently living abroad and due to return back to England in July.I am currently paid in US dollars and the exchange right now is pretty awful, I wanted to know if anyone has ever applied for a US - dollar bank account in a UK bank, or knows where I should go looking. I am hoping I would be able to open an account, transfer my dollars into this new account and wait until the dollar is stronger against the pound.
I would be grateful with any advice.
Thanks

You can have a Paypal account in US dollars as well, but doesn't pay interest.Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

I have a US dollar savings account with Citibank. They also offer USD current accounts.
I've always been happy with the service.0 -

Me too. You can have USD and EUR and GBP current accounts and a debit card linked to one of them at a time which you can re-link whenever you like without changing the card number.
I think the spread they charge on fx between the account either side of the market mid price seems to have gone up in last couple of years, it seemed to be 2% or more the other day on a small transfer. If you were doing large amounts you could wire it to a broker and back to your other currency account, and probably beat their rate.
Lloyds international also do a dollar account but with a higher monthly fee.0 -
I have a USD Savings account with Nationwide International. Good rate of interest and the fx rates are fair.0
