A bit of a long story so I'll try to keep it simple!
My sons friends mum was in hospital and he needed to order something so we said he could get it sent here. It arrived and all was ok, so we thought!
Turns out the credit card didn't go through, he had put our address as the billing and delivery address but his mums name as the contact.
Cue a phone call to my husband yesterday, saying it hadn't been paid, he had to pay or they implied they would send the bailiffs round! Just like that...
I rang them and told them what had happened, said I would contact my son after school to speak to his friend but could they update the details and take our address off the billing address as he had messed up.
They said they couldn't, we were now liable for the whole debt of £148.48 and if his mum didn't pay they would chase us.
She rang them in the evening and paid and all sorted. However, there is still another order from another company which hasn't arrived yet, so I am now concerned about that. Obviously we will never agree to do anything like that again.
However it got me thinking, were they right? Were we now liable due to his mistake and could they have taken action against us even though it was not in our name? but was our address.
The chap I spoke to said that as it was delivered to us, and we accepted the delivery we were now liable. Is that correct?
Also, were they right to threaten bailiffs on that first call without giving my husband a chance to explain the situation?
Thanks in advance for any replies or advice.

Don't sweat it, they are talking nonsense and are wrong on just about every count.
and, don't let it affect your actions in future, you were being helpful to a family in trouble and the world needs more people like you0
