Two Jobs

Hello Guys ,

I will explain to you my situation .
I have got two different job ( but i don't know if one of this count as a job ) I start to work with G4S as a Customer Care steward , i can decide when i want to work and there are also some month without a single day of work . My second job is a full time speaker in a call center . When i gave my P46 to the call centert i choose the option : "" I have got another job ... bla bla bla "" so i received the tax cod (multijob)

When came my first payslip (april) i saw 190£ of PAYE tax . And in that month (april) i never worked with G4S .

SO my question is , how can i calculate my PAYE tax ? If i give my resign to G4S my PAYE will be lower ?

I'm not british as you can see xD ! Please help me xD !

How much do you earn in the call centre? If it's more than £10,000 per annum then the simplest solution is to have your personal allowance applied fully to that job and none of it to the G4S job. If it's less than £10K then you should get personal allowance equal to your salary applied and use the rest at G4S. All you need to do is ring up HMRC and explain it and they will reallocate your tax codes - if your English isn't good enough for that conversation maybe you could get someone else to be with you when you call and ask HMRC to speak to them instead.

Telephone number you need is 0300 200 3300 - I recommend ringing at 8 a.m. if you can.

Thank you very much :D !I'm earning 11500 £ for year with the call center .
I checked payslip with my other colleagues , they have just this call center job with my same remuneration and they pay just 60 PAYE tax . I just asked this to you guys to understand why there where this difference and if occasional job like G4S weighs on wages and taxes

Lellos92, Your tax code is for the whole 12 months and HMRC assumes that you are earning a wage on both jobs.

As Agrinnall states, you need to contact HMRC and tell them the situation, they will apply your tax allowance to your highest salary position, the other job will then have all the earnings taxed without any tax free allowance. This will result in you getting an L Code on your salary and a BR code on your G4S Salary.

When you call HMRC you should be prepared to tell them your National Insurance number and also your company PAYE number - you can get this from payroll.

Having two jobs doesn't mean you will 'pay more tax than you earn' and end up worse off. That's a complete myth.

So. You can earn approx £10000 per year tax free, and the way the UK system works is to assign that £10000 allowance to your main job, so that you only pay tax on the excess.

If you get a second job, it then doesn't have any allowances (as you've used them in the first job), so you pay tax at full 20%.

The problem that you have is that your allowance has been assigned to the job where you only work occasionally. Presumably you earn far less than £10000 from that job, which means you aren't getting the benefit of that allowance and are currently paying far too much tax.

If you speak to HMRC they can swap your tax codes to ensure your allowance is put on your main call centre job. This will also automaticaly generate a rebate of the tax you have overpaid in your next payroll. You will probably find that your next tax payment is close to zero, or it might even be a negative amount (i.e. they are giving some back) but please don't assume this is 'normal' and will continue - it's a one off.

The £60 your colleagues mentioned is probably roughly what you should be paying.

If you have two jobs HRMC tend to figure it out for themselves after a few months and allocate you a split tax code one for each job but it will be a lot quicker to call them and ask them to change it asap.
