Daughter applying for provisional licence
Hi,
My daughter will be 17 in exactly three months and a friend told her that she can apply for a provisional licence from today. She wants to be good and ready for a lesson on her birthday.
She was part way through applying online (with my credit card at the ready!!) and the next screen said "As you are under 17 and are not receiving personal independence payment, you will only receive a provisional moped licence". This has confused us both!
I *think* it will be OK and simply means that when she reaches her birthday then it will *automatically* become a car provisional licence. But is that actually the case? I don't want to risk £50 on it, only to have to fork out again in August when she turns 17.
I figured someone on this forum will know the answer!
Thanks,

You think correctly. My lads applied at 16 to ride mopeds. The provisional came back with all classes.0 -
That's reassuring - thanks a lot!!0

It's known as "growing entitlement".
When you get the photocard, you will see various categories on the back with entitlement start and end dates.
While categories AM, A, p and q will show a start date from when the licence was issued, category B (car) will show a start date in the future, i.e. her 17th birthday. On this date, her B entitlement will kick in and she'll be able to have her birthday lesson.0 -
Just be careful to use the correct website (ending .gov.uk) and not a fake website which will charge ££s just to re-type the date into the true website. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
