N Power debt advice

So I recieved a letter today from Wescot credit services and as I don't have any outstanding debts I'm aware of I rang to find out why they were contacting me. Turns out N Power are claiming I have an outstanding debt from my previous address, however this debt dates to february 2014 and I moved out october 2013. I rang N Power myself to dispute this and they are now saying it is because my account was opened and closed on estimated meter readings. I'm so angry about this as firstly they actually sent someone round to read the meters at one point who only read the gas meter and secondly the electricity meter, where they claim the debt is, is a pre-paid meter and when we closed the account they actually owed me money and sent me a cheque.
Does anyone know anything about these pre-paid meters and whether it is possible to actually have debt outstanding in this situation? And would it be wise to contact trading standards about this?

Bear in mind also that NPower now report all their customers to the CRAs on a montly basis. As a result, you could have late payment/default notices registered against your name.

I know, this is why I'm so annoyed!
