Thomas Cook effectively cancelling my summer holiday - advice needed
Comments
-
Did you book online or through a shop?
If you booked through a shop, is it a Thomas Cook holiday that you booked or is it with another operator? It could even by a 'Flexible Trips' booking which is Thomas Cooks dynamic package brand.
Have they given you any guidance as to where you should look for alternative accommodation, or have they actually offered any alternatives?
I would expect that they should have offered you an alternative first, that would be like for like (this basically means same star rating and board basis nothing else so don't look at facilities, location etc as they don't really count at this stage). If y ou did not like that alternative then they should have pointed you in the direction of which website or brochure etc to look at for alternatives, and then as a last resort offered a refund.
Do be realistic though and consider that August is peak season and there is a high possibility that depending on which resort you are meant to be going too, there is no alternative accommodation available at all of any rating etc.Lea

Why post for advice, then not come back and answer our questions, when we've offered advice on the small amount of information you've given us. Gets on my nerves.0

Mine too but I sometimes wonder if when a new poster posts they forget where they have posted and then cant find the forum/thread to reply0 -
Maybe the poster has just been busy and not had chance to come back to us yet.Lea

The advice is that in reality there isn't a lot you can do
Yes, It sucks...customer services could be better
Do they have to compensate you?...not if it's not in the t&c's no
Do they care? ummm well they have shown a token 'we care' gesture by throwing in 50 quid each....but what they should be doing is offering you what you could have got for that price with them at the time you booked...now that would be good customer service
I bet one mention of it on watchdog and the 'we care' gesture would be greatly increased0 -

Good point hadn't thought of that
Lea if i'd asked for help on something as important as this then i'd find a few minutes to read the help offered, I think Photome may be right.0 -
I have seen a very similar post on a couple of other forums so there is a possibility that they have just forgotten which one as you say. Hopefully they may have read the advise and now found a happy solution but would be nice to know the outcome.Lea

Thank you for your replies. Sorry if I upset anyone by not checking back in however my week took a worse turn as my mother has been hospitalised very suddenly. I understand that I have to adhere to T&Cs but I think what Thomas Cook have done is entirely unfair. They have not offered me any alternatives until I pushed them then they found 2 weeks in Marmaris which I categorically do not want! I don't feel I am being unreasonable expecting them to find me an alternative holiday that I am happy with. I don't have high aspirations just somewhere vaguely in keeping with what I have booked. I intend to ask them questions regarding timings and how many people have been affected and how many people have been re-accommodated as I feel having booked in August I should have been near the front of the queue to be helped first. I effectively can't afford a holiday now and I am sure most people would be unimpressed if it had happened to them!0

Whilst I fully sympathise, maybe if we knew where you booked originally and what TC have offered in Marmaris as an alternative it would help, what have you got against Marmaris?I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

I booked a small quiet resort in Corfu staying close to some friends who are about 10k up the coast. I don't want to go to Marmaris. I don't want to go to Turkey. I can't remember the name of the accommodation but it was big and I don't want to pay to go somewhere a) I don't want to go and b) I don't want to stay. It was nothing like "like for like" and they only begrudgingly said they would look for somewhere when I complained and said they had to! I'm just unhappy.... but thank you!0
