8 year old XP laptop

Just after some opinions really. I have an old Dell XP laptop that has been running slower and slower, understandably. Haven't used it in months.
I was planning to factory reset (recovery partition) it and take it to a charity or a recycling place as I doubt it is worth anything. I mentioned this at work and one of my colleagues said he'd take it and has since asked how much I want for it.
WWYD? I get the impression he doesn't expect it for nothing but I certainly don't expect much, if anything - I was ready to give it away before.

Model number or Service Tag?0

Ask him how much he thinks it's worth. It may be worth little as a complete machine, but the parts are always salvageable and sellable. No free lunch, and no free laptop

it won't be slow after a factory restore
if you dispose of it to a charity/friend, after doing a factory restore - install ccleaner, tick wipe free space, and run it, otherwise some of your data may be recoverable!!

Another good secure disk wipe is DBAN http://www.dban.org/ Boot it off a USB flash drive and load the program into the RAM memory of your computer and remove the flash drive before clicking start (this is because DBAN will nuke every drive connected of any data)if you dispose of it to a charity/friend, after doing a factory restore - install ccleaner, tick wipe free space, and run it, otherwise some of your data may be recoverable0 -

It's a 630m Inspiron, bought in 2006. Spares on an auction site seem to go for ca. £20 so I might ask for that.
Although I was prepared to let it go for nothing every penny counts at this time.
Thanks for the advice everyone"I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."0 -
Just in case anyone was interested, I asked my colleague if £20 was reasonable. He refused to pay anything as I had implied I was giving it away and suggested I try to sell it on eBay. [So why did he ask how much I wanted for it??!]
It sold for £29."I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."0
