Single versus multi-trip insurance

I found a real oddity today. Buying insurance for three-week trip to Canada and USA, MSE recommended supplier LeisureGuard quote £20 LESS for annual multi-trip than three-week single! Single trip takes people much older than my 71, so perhaps that's why, but as they do ask age I'd be surprised. This insurer is also much better on pre-existing conditions, as it wipes the slate at 24 months rather than most companies' 5 years.

Annual policies normally have an auto renewal clause meaning that most customers end up being with them for multiple years, some of which they may make no trips at all etc and so overall they get more money in.
Single trip policies are a one off and need to be priced on the assumption it'll be used and its the only money you'll get from the customer0
